Wikipedia defines search
engine optimization (SEO) as "the process
of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site
from search engines via "natural" ("organic"
or "algorithmic") search results." The closer
to the top of the search results means higher success which
should bring more relevant traffic and an increase in traffic.
Search Engine Promotion can also be used for different type
of searches such as media search, image search, local search,
industry specific search, etc.
Search Engine Positioning can include
unique content building, copywriting
and structuring the website and individual pages to be easier
crawled by search engine bots.
Search Engine Placement is also concerned with terms
people search and algorithms
search engines utilize to rank web pages called Search Engine
Result Pages (SERP).
The Search Engine Ranking process can be utilized
during the web development as meta tags are developed
and descriptions written in the unseen code within each web
page. Meta tags have been abused by search engine optimizers
in the past and recently are given smaller and smaller value
by search engines; the meta keywords and descriptions
are often keyword stuffed causing irrelevant search results.
This was the beginning of the major use of manipulation by search
engine optimizers causing search engines to develop more complicated
algorithms to discern between over coding and good documents
that provided relevant search results.
